Statutory Induction Registration

If a post is suitable for statutory induction to take place, it’s a statutory requirement that schools and ECTs are registered for statutory induction with an appropriate body.

If an ECT is not registered for statutory induction with an appropriate body, they are not under statutory induction and statutory induction cannot be backdated. Under the 2-year induction arrangements implemented by the DfE, there are two steps to the registration process both of which are mandatory and must be completed by school (not the ECT):

1 – Register ECTs for statutory induction with an appropriate body (if working with us, register via Mosaic)

2 – Register training provision under the ECTE (formerly ECF programme) with the DfE. As of June 2026, this is to be completed via the DfE sign-in service. (Note: this step is not applicable to schools who do not receive section 41 funding. The DfE have provided guidance for registering training provision on their website. If you experience issues accessing the DfE sign-in, please contact the DfE directly by email at: continuing-professional-development@digital.education.gov.uk. The DfE do not have a contact number so you will need to email.

Both registration steps above must be completed by school, this is not a process that ECTs are responsible for or can complete themselves. DfE statutory guidance places responsibility on heads/principals to ensure ECTs are fully registered. Heads/principals may delegate this responsibility to a suitable member of staff such as an induction tutor but the overall responsibility of ensuring ECTs are correctly registered for statutory induction cannot be delegated. Please see the guidance linked in this section for further information about roles and responsibilities. Please note – If you do not register an ECT or you register them late, you will need to explain to the ECT why they were not registered – it is not the responsibility of the appropriate body to explain to an ECT why school have not registered them for statutory induction and/or training provision.
