Appropriate Body (AB)

Appropriate Body (AB)

Appropriate Bodies (ABs) play an significant role in the statutory induction of Early Career Teachers (ECTs). It’s a statutory requirement that schools and ECTs are registered with an appropriate body for statutory induction. Appropriate bodies are required to check and ensure that the relevant people involved in the statutory induction process know their responsibilities for monitoring, support and assessment and are capable of meeting them.

Through its statutory quality assurance duties as outlined by the DfE, appropriate bodies are also required to provide support and monitoring throughout statutory induction and are expected to check and ensure that all ECTs are receiving their statutory entitlements. The appropriate body is also required to regularly provide the statutory induction status of all ECTs to the DfE and Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA).

The guidance linked within this section is intended to summarise the key elements of statutory induction which we hope you will find useful once registered with us as appropriate body for statutory induction. Information relating to statutory registration requirements can be found in our registration guidance.

Please note: . if an ECT is not registered for statutory induction, they are not under statutory induction and statutory induction cannot be backdated.

NB: . If you’re a school, college or ECT who we are not providing appropriate body services to, please do not use this guidance. Please refer to your appropriate bodies guidance. Appropriate Body contact details can be found on the DfE website
