Early Headship Coaching Offer (EHCO)

We’re really excited to introduce the Early Headship Coaching Offer (EHCO).

Eligibilty Criteria

  1. Are in your first five years of headship
  2. Are employed in a state-funded school, or are employed in a state-funded organisation that offers 16 to 19 places in England upon starting the training
  3. Have either completed a national professional qualification for headship (NPQH) before taking up your first headship post, are applying for a NPQH, or are currently taking the NPQH
  4. Have not withdrawn from the additional support programme previously

What will I learn?

Designed with busy headteachers in mind, the EHCO is delivered as a personalised learning journey. Sessions are led by you and the school leader, so you can focus on your own priorities.

This could include:

  • Staffing
  • Difficult conversations
  • Self-development
  • Behaviour
  • Culture
  • Effective implementation

Programme Breakdown

Programme delivery is conducted over 12 months of one-to-one support from an experienced school leader. There is no assessment and minimal preparation time for sessions.

This is a targeted package of support tailored to the needs of headteachers new to the role of headship. It provides bespoke, un-assessed support based on the best available evidence about what makes an effective headteacher. It is a personalised learning journey, prioritising headteachers’ wellbeing and personal development as a school leader and supporting them through local networks.

  • Greater insight into the systems, sectors, and sources of effective leadership practice

Cost and funding

For the early headship coaching offer, funding to cover the course fees will be available if you are in your first 5 years of headship in England in a state-funded school or state-funded 16 to 19 organisation.  You should also be doing or have done the NPQH.

Non-funded places: £800

Working in partnership with Teach First 

Teach First has been an accredited NPQ provider for several years. Following a thorough due diligence process, Bright Futures is delighted to be partnered with Teach First. Teach First has got a strong and proven track record in leadership development. For nearly twenty years, Teach First has trained and developed more than 19,000 teachers and leaders, including 10,000 trainees on its teacher training programme rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. How to Apply

Our application window, for NPQs starting in October 2024, will open later in the summer term.  Until then you can complete the ‘Expression of Interest’ form NPQ EOI – October 2024 (jotform.com).  This will enable us to keep in touch with you and inform you as soon as our application window is open and confirm next steps.
